Following Integru.org’s Review 10: Olesia Mihai, PhD thesis copy/paste plagiarism, the dean of the Faculty of Economy of “Al I. Cuza” University, Prof Dinu Ariniei has stated that Olesia Mihai has just announced her resignation.
Olesia Mihai, who was recently promoted to Associate Professor, still denies any plagiarism, despite the obvious evidence, also confirmed by 4 international academics, including the original author, Prof Jay W. Ruud.
The university’s Rector, Prof Vasile Isan, has declared for Adevarul that he decided to instate a special committee at the Faculty of Literature (which conferred the Doctor title to Olesia Mihai in 2005) to analyze the case. Prof Ariniei informed that the university ethics committee will also be notified. The Dean of the Faculty of Literature, Prof Codrin Cutitaru, stated he will respect the verification procedure of the special committee and ethics committee, which can finalize with a retraction of the Doctor title and a demotion.
Congratulations and thanks and to Prof Jay Ruud, Prof Andrew Galloway, Prof Jocelyn Wogan-Browne and Prof Howell Chickering for taking the time to offer a public review.
Book with the same title (and content?)
In 2009, Olesia Mihai (former Lupu) published a book with the same title (Romanian): Lupu, O., Traditia medievala in scrierile lui Geoffrey Chaucer, Editura Sedcom Libris, Iasi, Romania, 2009, suspected to contain the same plagiarized content.
It appears that neither the National Library nor the University Library own a copy, which is at least odd as the publisher is expected to offer a number of copies. Please contact us if you have information about this book.
